Role Description – Senior Flood risk Modeller
We're growing our Flood & Catchment Resilience team and are looking for an experienced Senior Flood Risk Modeller who wants to do more than simply build models.

You'll play a leading role in delivering flood risk and drainage projects across the UK, helping clients understand complex flood mechanisms, evaluate interventions, and make evidence-led decisions. You'll work across river, surface water, sewer, and integrated catchment systems, combining technical modelling expertise with strategic thinking and innovation.

This role combines leadership, technical excellence, and problem-solving. You'll work across:

• Hydraulic and hydrological modelling
• Flood risk assessments and mitigation studies
• Surface water and drainage strategy development
• Catchment and integrated systems modelling
• Geospatial and digital insight
• Climate resilience and future risk assessment
• Translating complex modelling outputs into clear decision-making

You won't simply produce flood maps and model runs. You'll help shape how organisations understand risk, prioritise investment, and improve resilience across communities, infrastructure, and the environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading the development and delivery of hydraulic and hydrological modelling studies
• Building, reviewing, and applying models using tools such as TUFLOW, MIKE+, HEC-RAS, Flood Modeller, or equivalent platforms
• Delivering flood risk assessments, drainage studies, and catchment investigations for water companies, local authorities, and infrastructure clients
• Evaluating flood alleviation options, nature-based solutions, and resilience measures
• Integrating modelling outputs with GIS, asset data, monitoring information, and other spatial datasets
• Supporting major programmes associated with flood risk management, drainage strategy, wastewater resilience, and climate adaptation
• Communicating complex technical findings clearly to clients, stakeholders, and non-technical audiences
• Providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members
• Contributing to innovation through digital twins, automation, real-time data integration, and emerging analytical techniques
• Supporting business development activities, bids, and client engagement opportunities

What We’re Looking For

We're interested in people who combine strong technical capability with curiosity, innovation, and the ability to see the wider picture.

You may come from a consultancy, utility, contractor, or public-sector background, but you'll be someone who enjoys solving complex problems and turning analysis into action.
 

Core strengths:

• Strong experience in flood risk, drainage, or hydraulic modelling
• Expertise in one or more modelling platforms such as InfoWorks ICM, MIKE+, TUFLOW, Flood Modeller, or HEC-RAS
• Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulic processes, and flood risk management principles
• Experience interpreting and communicating complex modelling outcomes
• Ability to manage projects and deliver high-quality technical outputs
• Strong GIS and spatial data analysis skills
• Understanding of UK flood risk policy, regulatory frameworks, and industry guidance
• Excellent written, verbal, and client-facing communication skills

Desirable (but not essential):

• Familiarity with digital twins, automation, scripting, or data analytics tools
• Experience integrating modelling with remote sensing, monitoring data, or geospatial intelligence
• Chartered status, or working towards chartership, with a relevant professional institution
• Experience assessing nature-based solutions and catchment-scale interventions
