Consultant: Water Quality and Catchment Insights
The Role
At Spatial Insights, we turn complexity into clarity. We are a UK-based specialist in geospatial intelligence, digital twins, predictive analytics, and spatial strategy, helping clients move from data-rich to insight-led. Our work sits at the intersection of environment, infrastructure, and digital innovation, supporting water companies, regulators, and catchment partners to make better, faster, and more resilient decisions. From catchment to coast, we fuse modelling, monitoring, and emerging data sources such as remote sensing, satellite analytics, and real-time environmental data to uncover pollution pathways, predict risk, and drive smarter investment. This is not business-as-usual consultancy. This is about reshaping how the water sector understands and manages the environment.
Role Description – Consultant (Water Quality & Catchment Insights)
We’re growing our Water Quality & Catchment Insights team and are looking for individuals who want to do more than build models, we want people who want to change how the system works.
You’ll work at the forefront of water sector challenges, supporting programmes aligned to WINEP, SOAF and wider regulatory and environmental drivers such as DWMP and WRMP. You’ll help clients understand not just what is happening in their catchments... but why, what happens next, and what to do about it.
This role combines technical depth, strategic thinking, and innovation. You’ll work across:
- Catchment process understanding
- Water quality risk and pollution pathway analysis
- Integrated modelling and monitoring strategies
- Emerging data sources such as satellite-derived insights, remote sensing, and high-frequency monitoring
- Translating complexity into clear, actionable decisions
You won’t just deliver outputs—you’ll help shape new approaches to catchment intelligence, linking land, water, and infrastructure in ways that traditional siloed methods cannot.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and supporting catchment and water quality investigations, linking source–pathway–receptor dynamics
- Working with and integrating multi-source datasets (models, monitors, remote sensing, GIS, asset data)
- Supporting delivery of WINEP and SOAF-aligned programmes, including option development and evidence generation
- Applying modelling, analytics, and spatial insight to identify risk, target interventions, and optimise investment
- Bringing innovation into practice, leveraging satellite data, digital twins, and novel monitoring approaches
- Delivering high-quality, client-focused outputs, from technical analysis to strategic advisory
- Contributing to the evolution of our methods, tools, and propositions as the sector transforms
What We’re Looking For
We’re less interested in box-ticking and more interested in how you think.
You might come from a background in hydrology, environmental science, water quality, GIS, or data science—but what matters is your ability to connect the dots.
Core strengths:
- Strong analytical capability, able to interrogate and interpret complex environmental datasets
- Experience in water quality, catchment science, or environmental modelling
- Understanding of UK water sector drivers such as WINEP, SOAF, and AMP cycles
- Ability to translate technical outputs into clear insight and recommendations
- Confidence working with uncertainty, incomplete data, and evolving evidence bases
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience with modelling tools - InfoWorks ICM, Mike1+, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS or similar
- Familiarity with remote sensing, Earth observation, or geospatial analytics
- Consulting or client-facing experience
- Exposure to nature-based solutions, catchment management, or pollution mitigation strategies
Why Join Us?
- Be part of a team that is redefining catchment intelligence, not just delivering models
- Work on high-impact challenges that directly influence environmental outcomes
- Help shape innovative approaches using emerging data and digital capabilities
- Grow in a company where ideas matter as much as experience
If you’re excited by the idea of moving beyond traditional approaches and helping clients see their catchments differently, we want to hear from you.
